Common Governance Mistakes

Treating All AI the Same

Organization bans all AI because clinical use is too risky — blocks low-risk administrative uses that would improve efficiency.

Better Approach:

Risk-based framework: strict controls for clinical AI, lighter controls for admin AI. Same platform, different permissions.

No Governance for 'Non-Clinical' AI

Allow unrestricted AI for admin tasks, forgetting that staff discuss patients in meetings, emails, and operational contexts.

Even low-risk use cases need PHI protection and basic governance. It's lighter, not absent.

Blocking Clinical AI Entirely
